Essex Field, Portland, OR
The Green Goblins and the Blue Monkeys (Portland LL A) squared off on
Essex Field on April 28th. As the home team, the Blue Monkeys jumped out to a 5-1
lead at the end of the first. But that's when the Green Goblins defense
stepped up, allowing only two more runs over the next 4 innings. In the
2nd catcher Will Hannan tagged out a runner coming home. In the 3rd,
after a hit to right, Eli Koehler took the relay and threw out the
runner going to third, with Aidan O'Brien making the tag. In the 4th
Yona Voss-Andrae made a great catch on a drive to left field. Thoughout,
1st baseman Ehman Tanneholz hung on to the ball and made the plays. In
the top of the 5th, the Green Goblins took the lead 8-7, and in the
bottom of the 5th, things got interesting. Finbar O'Brien walked the
first batter, who stole 2nd and advanced to 3rd on an error. With nobody
out and the tying run on 3rd, Finbar and battery partner Eli Koehler
took care of the ball and the rest of the game as they struck out the
next three batters to preserve the win.
